Tallinn gained its independence from Russia in the early 1990s but one can still see the influence of Russia in the traditional style of Moscow churches of the 17th century.
Panoramic view of Lower Town from the highest point of Old Town. Tallinn, along with Copenhagen, were my favorite stops on this cruise. The people here are very friendly, helpful and love to barter at the open air markets. The city is very clean and quaint - just like I thought European cities would look like!

Do alot of tourists visit there, apart from those on the cruise ship? Curious if it is a popular spot for any particular reason.
It seems to me that most of the tourists would be from cruise ships. As far as I know, there is no particular reason why it would be attractive. But having said that, it sure was pretty and rather than being a ho-hum stop it turned out to be a treasure. I know that one can buy amber there quite reasonably, as well as linens and handmade knitwear. In fact Helsinki in Finland runs weekly ferry trips to Tallinn so that the Fins can take advantage of the cheap shopping. Talk about cross-sea shopping!!
