My Favorite St. Petersburg Memory

This is the Church of our Savior on Spilled Blood, recently opened after 25 years of restoration. It was constructed in 1907 on the spot where Alexander II was assassinated.

It is adorned with 9 onion domes and ceramics.

The Church imitates Russian architecture of the XVI century.

This is the sight that greets the cruise ship passengers when we dock. My overall impression of St. Petersburg is that it is not a warm city. The buildings are absolutely huge and set far back from the street. It is hard to find a smiling Russian. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that St. Petersburg receives on average only 30 days of sunshine a year.

I have a computer game with that cathedral in it...always thought the colours were neat.
By the way, hard to find a smiling face here this week, we aren't seeing anything but rain, and lots of it.
