Bonavista Peninsula

Bonavista Peninsula is one of the historic and beautiful parts of the province. There are many small fishing villages to explore and anyone interested in architecture would be delighted in the many old architectural styles of the buildings.

Our first iceberg sighting...so exciting! But this one was just a small one.

Elliston has achieved the title of Root Cellar Capital of the World because 135 documented root cellars are peppered throughout the town - some of which have survived more than 200 years. Most unique are those that the locals call 'upstairs-downstairs' root cellars and they are presently in the process of becoming Municipal Heritage Structures.

The northern tip of the Bonavista Peninsula is where John Cabot landed in 1497 and 'discovered' the 'New Founde Lande'. This is a full-sized replica of his ship, the Matthew.

Our first good-sized iceberg, sighted off Cape Bonavista!!
