Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

On March 3, we began our trip to Myrtle Beach to visit with my brother Larry and his wife Linda at their condo. The visibility through the mountains of Pensylvania, West Virginia and Virginia was limited, due to snow showers. All the pictures that follow were either taken at Myrtle or on the way home.

View of the Front of the Condo

At the complex, five or six condo units shared a private pond. This is the view from the back screened in porch of the condo. Ducks, blue herons, and egrets were common sights on the pond.

All of the condos were located on the edge of "The Wizard" golf course. The tee off area for the 15th hole was located right across the pond from our porch. This picture was taken from the edge of the rough.

Here is a view of the kitchen/dining area of the condo. A lovely unit with lots of room, 2 kingsize beds, 2 baths and every room decorated in the golfing theme. Surprise, surprise!

Of course, while we were there, we ate lots of seafood. One of our favorite spots was Pier 14, a lovely spot complete with a fishing pier.

Here is a picture of the Myrtle Beach gang!

One of the many mountain cuts through West Virginia

We encountered 2 long tunnels on the way. This one is Walker Mountain Tunnel in West Virginia.

This is the New River Gorge in West Virginia, averaging 1000 feet in depth. Very pretty!

The new river gorge bridge is the largest single span arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere. On the third Saturday in October each year, the bridge is closed to traffic and bungee jumpers take part in Bridge Day.

Of course, we were anxious to see Chloe again. On the trip home from the kennel, she immediately fell asleep in the back seat of the car. It took her two days to recuperate!

This photo tells it all - dog tired!!!!

Recent Projects

Bob has been working on and off on a project to make use of the area below the stairs. In addition there will be a desk occupying the empty space. A great place to hide away!

Finally got a chance to take a photo of the transom that I did between the kitchen and the sunroom.

In like a Lion!

The icestorm yesterday hit us suddenly and viciously! I barely made it home from Guelph! I had the misfortune of being the lead car for a group of cars coming down Downey Road. The road had not been plowed and the snow was so deep, the bottom of the car was scrapping the snow! I could not see the yellow line. The only thing I could do was try to keep on previous tracks made by recent cars. Visibility was very limited! 40 km per hour was speeding!

Later in the evening the snow turned to freezing rain.
In the middle of the night, we awoke to our fire alarms beeping, indicating that the power was out. Power was restored about 9:30 am so we are good to go now.

The only problem we have now is getting Chloe up to Arthur to the kennel. It seems that road conditions up there are as bad if not worse than ours and their power is still out. So here we sit, awaiting news of conditions.

I thought you might enjoy some pictures of our recent snow and ice!
