Glimpses of Powell River

We just returned home after spending a delightful and fun-packed holiday with Pat and Ken in Powell River. This is their home on Collingwood Drive.

One of the many treks along the shoreline looking for interesting rocks, shells or blue ocean glass.

Everyday we would venture down to the marina to work on the boat or to go out on the chuck (to us shore lovers, the ocean). It is a fine sailing boat, a 27' Catalina. We learned many new terms, like the chuck, sheets, halyard, jibe, luff, and rode to name a few.

Inland Lake Pictures of Fish and More

This is beautiful Inland Lake, not far from Powell River. In addition to containing cutthroat trout, the lake also has a population of kokanee trout. We fished on this lake twice while we were out in Powell River.

This is a cutthroat trout. Notice the reddish slits near the lower jaw. Hence the name!

Yesterday Pat, Ken, Bob and I went fishing at Inland Lake not far from Powell River. We just had one canoe so Ken decided to walk the 14 km trail around the lake while we fished. Then later Ken and I went back out for some more time on the lake.
The lake contains cutthroat trout which averages 12-16 inches in length.
Pat was ecstatic to catch her first trout! And now we have created a monster! We had several bites as well as the two that we kept. Acutally I found out later that the two smaller trout that I released actually were two kokanee. They are quite a bit smaller than the cutthroat.
